Las Vegas
CreationCon 2007
The CO and XO had a
fabulous time at the 2007 incarnation of North America’s largest Star Trek
Convention, which strted on August 9th and ran through August 12th.
Almost
forty major guest stars (2 had to cancel) showed, plus there were over a
dozen more in the autograph area of the dealers room.

Most of
the surviving members of the original cast were there, including Bill
Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, George Takei, Walter Koenig, and Nichelle
Nichols. In the
autograph room was Don Marshall (Lt. Boma), Suzie Plakson (K’ehleyr), Bobby
Clark (The Gorn), Joanne Linville (Romulan Commander) and several others.

This year celebrated the 20th
Anniversary of The Next Generation.
On hand to party was Levar Burton, Dwight Schultz, Gates McFadden, Robert O’Reilly, Jonathan Frakes and
Brent Spiner. In the autograph
room was Natalija Nogulich (Adm. Nechayev) and Michelle Scarabelli (Lt.
Jenna D’Sora) .

Best
represented, however, was Deep Space Nine. Avery Brooks, Cirroc Lofton, Penny Johnson Jerald, Nana
Visitor, Rene Auberjonois, Terry Farrell, Nicole DeBoer, Marc Alaimo,
Andrew Robinson, Casey Biggs, Jeffrey Combs, Max Grodenchik, Armin Shimerman
and Wallace Shawn. And in the
autograph room were Barry Jenner (Adm. Ross), Chase Masterson (Leeta) and
Tracy Scoggins (Gilora Rejal).
Unfortunately, J.G. Hertzler and Louise Fletcher were the show’s two
cancellations. Terry Farrell
was as beautiful as ever in her first appearance in five years and Wallace
Shawn (Grand Negas Zek) was making his first convention appearance ever!

Voyager
was less well represented, though we did get the Captain, Kate Mulgrew, and
her right hand Vulcan, Tim Russ.
Also in the autograph room was Richard Herd (Admiral Paris).

And last but not least were the NX-01 crew,
represented by Connor Trinnear, Dominic Keating, Anthony Montgomery and
Vaughn Armstrong.

Those of
us fortunate enough to have either Gold seat or Captain’s Chair tickets
were also treated to a party with 5 hours of unlimited free access to the
Star Trek Experience in the Las Vegas Hilton, which adjoins the Convention
Center. Four buffets were set
up for Quark’s Bar and there was the Museum of The Future, full of props
and information about Star Trek.
Overhead were the giant models of the Voyager and Enterprise-D, as well as the Klingon
Bird-of-Prey. Included was
free unlimited access to the two motion simulator attractions: Klingon
Encounter and Borg Invasion 4D.

And no
convention would be complete without costumes:

Some of the Federation Contingent

Bajorans

Tell me he doesn’t look like Avery Brooks!

Yvonne Craig? Alas, no, but a good effort.

Not even Q could miss this party!

Bill
Shatner (Kirk) notices Leonard Nimoy’s (Spock) custom t-shirt. It said “#1
Vulcan”.

DS9’s
First Family: Avery Brooks (Ben Sisko), Penny Johnson Jerald (Cassidy
Yates) abd Cirroc Lofton (Jake Sisko)

Rene
Auberjonois (Odo) and Nana Visitor (Major Kira Nerys)

A Ferengi Hostile Takeover:
Max Grodenchik, Jeffrey Combs, Armin Shimerman,
Wallace Shawn

The Cardassians were at it again:
Casey Biggs, Andrew Robinson, and Marc Alaimo

Jonathan Frakes and Brent Spiner had everyone in
stitches. They’re like two
kids in a candy shop.

The Enterprise Party Boys:
Dominic Keating and Connor Trinnear

AHHHH!
The BEAUTY of STAR TREK!!!!!!!!

The CO finally meets a girl from a climate he can
feel comfortable in. What’s
that old saying,
“Cold hands, warm heart.”

The XO prefers it a bit warmer, more like 39.1
Celsius.
(Like a Borg Cube)

I hope Walter remembers how promotions worked in
the Mirror Universe, cause this little lady is packing a dagger in the top
of that thigh high boot.

A Commander! Who knows, maybe by Las Vegas 2008, the uniform will be
burgundy and she’ll be commanding the U.S.S. Canis Major.
At left:
Leonard Nimoy and his new friend,
James from Honolulu.
During Q&A, nine-year-old James
told Nimoy that his portrayal of Spock had inspired the boy in many ways,
including to do better in school.
Awed and humbled by the boy’s
statement, Nimoy promised to pay to bring James, his parents, and his two
younger siblings to the premier of the next Star Trek film in December of
2008.
After James left the stage, Leonard
went on to say “Someone asked me earlier where I saw the future of Star
Trek.” He pointed at James and
said “There it is.”
