A Ship's History
Beginning life as the Shuttle Indianapolis, we
launched at the Region 01 Summit on April 2, 2003, becoming
NCC-75435/1, the first Shuttle to launch from our mothership, the U.S.S.
Questar NCC-75435 out of Louisville, Kentucky. Our name
was selected as a tribute to the WWII cruiser U.S.S. Indianapolis,
CA-35, which was torpedoed and sunk during the Pacific Campaign.
At the time, the Commanding Officer was then Commander
Rodney Davis of Indianapolis, Indiana. Soon after, our Liason
Offier with the Questar, Captain Jeff Davis of Louisville
Kentucky, transferred aboard to become Executive Officer.
After attending the Slanted Fedora Convention of 2003,
we discovered there was already a U.S.S. Indianapolis in
existence in the Indianapolis area, as a part of another Star Trek fan
organization. In the interest of harmony and good will, we chose
to change our name. On May 1, 2004, at the next Region 01 Summit,
we commissioned as the U.S.S. Indiana NCC-79158, in memory
of the battleship Indiana, BB-58, which served the U.S. Navy so well
from 1942 till she was decommissioned in 1947.
Today,
the Indiana has developed into a two city ship, with active contingents
in both Indianapolis and Louisville.
